The data presented in these tables cover all categories of direct federal science and engineering (S&E) support to institutions of higher education in the United States for S&E activities. The 19 agencies listed in these tables provide virtually all federal funding for S&E research and development (R&D) at U.S. universities and colleges. The Survey of Federal Science and Engineering Support to Universities, Colleges, and Nonprofit Institutions is a congressionally mandated survey that is the only source of comprehensive data on federal science and engineering (S&E) funding to individual academic and nonprofit institutions. This document presents statistical data of direct federal science and engineering support to higher education institutions in the United States. Data presented in the report are collected annually and exclude financial support of an indirect nature. There are six categories of support presented: (1).   CRS-2 2 U.S. Government Accountability Office, Federal Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Programs and Related Trends, GAO, October 3 The ACC was created by the Deficit Reduction Act of (P.L. ) and charged with conducting a year-long study to identify all federal STEM education programs. In November , the Department announced that it invested nearly $ million to support science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education, including computer science, through discretionary and research grants in Fiscal Year (FY) , in accordance with President Trump's directive to foster expanded opportunities in these in-demand career fields. Of that total, there was almost $ million .   According to Dr Onu, the Federal Government is also putting in a lot of effort to encourage the promotion and participation of the girl child in Science, Technology and Innovation programmes in. Stokes is open to high school seniors planning on majoring in computer science or computer/electrical engineering. As an NSA employee with the Stokes Program, you will attend college full-time, receive up to $30, per year for tuition and mandatory fees, and work during the summers at NSA for 12 weeks in areas that are related to your course. FI-STEM included members from the 12 Federal agencies represented on CoSTEM.5The Federal Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education Portfolio6, released in December , provided the most-detailed overview of Federal STEM education activities to date, and guided the development of the Strategic Plan. STEM education and the topic is frequently raised in federal science, education, workforce, national security, and immigration policy debates. For example, more than bills containing the term “science education” were introduced between the th and th congresses. The United States is widely believed to perform poorly in STEM education.
